YERH Developer - Hope Wanjeri

During these weeks the tension was getting worse because only a few members of my team could design. With teamwork and a lot of sacrifices, we were able to come up with designs using Figma as our tool. We had a great team leader who was able to organize the team and allocate roles in an efficient way. We presented the ideas that we had come up with and the day went well.

My hackathon journey started when my friends suggested that we apply for the Hackathon. I was in charge of the UI/UX design. I am a UI/UX designer and a cloud practitioner. For the application of this hackathon, I needed to avail my design portfolio and some of the projects that I had worked on. Fortunately, we got shortlisted and we were sent the day and date the event was to take place. We arrived at the hackathon grounds and surprisingly the first test was punctuality. If a team member arrived late the team was disqualified. We were a total of six teams but only four made it to the competition. The important lesson to learn here, you must always be available and punctual. At the hackathon, we were given the details pertaining to the website that was to be built. I liked the idea that was shared, it was very intriguing. The project was built to help young entrepreneurs find mentors using the web application. With mentorship, young people can grow their skills and become better entrepreneurs in the market. The idea was shared and we were to come up with designs of how the website was to look and feel basically the user experience was the test. The competition was to take place in two weeks and after the time given we were to present our designs to a number of judges.

We won second runners up and that felt great since the competition was tough. We were to participate in the development of the website and we used WordPress for that. This journey was full of fun and the best part was getting to work with people. We were also given data stipends and they came in handy for the research.
